In
honor of the Edmund Fitzgerald and her crew and the
Great Lakes Modeling Association 4th
birthday!!!
Another year has passed and
the Great Lakes Modeling Association is now 4 years old. It has been
a great year with so much going on, and so much in store
for
the coming years. When first creating this website, I had no idea it
would be taking me the direction it has. I simply wanted to help
others, now we have a new group, a pond being dug, a maritime
institute being built that we will be a part of and facilities to
hold our annual regatta, all right off the St. Clair River. Thanks
to a few motivated modelers: Norm Hart, Scott Tomlinson, Mike
Ferguson and myself.
We
started things off by opening our new group out of Port Huron, the
Great Lakes Nautical Society, a spin off of the Great Lakes Modeling
Association. Norm Hart wanted to start a group
in Port Huron, he
contacted me through me website, we met for lunch one day and shared
ideas. Early February we had our first meeting. Just the four of us
motivated modelers was all we needed to get things rolling. We hold
our first regatta in June, which was a big hit. Everyone had a great
time. So much more is in store for our group, it’s almost
unbelievable, mainly do to the generosity of Acheson Ventures. Our
latest gathering onboard the USCGC Hollyhock is only a sample to
what’s in store! Also want to thank our members for there hard work!
I
want to thank everyone for contributing there models to our museum.
We broke threw 100 models this year! Thanks for sharing your work
for all to enjoy. Thanks for all the kind words.
Build season is a pone us,
we are taking full advantage of it as next spring will be a busy one
running our new boats around. Hope you are doing the same, Happy
modeling all!!
Sincerely
Jeff Churill
