G.L.M.A. Celebrates her 3rd Year
Well
I’m proud to say the GLMA will be 3 years old on November 10th.
It’s now coincidence I started it on the anniversary of the sinking
of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I figure what better day to honor our task
in “Preserving our Great Lakes Maritime History”. I started into
this hobby 5 years ago with my model of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I had
almost no clue as to where to start, so I looked to the web. To my
surprise I found almost nothing regarding the subject. So in my
search I thought it would be a good idea to put a web site together
with the information I’ve learned. Hoping in the process to help
other get started to. That will always be the main task for this web
site, bring new comes to our hobby and giving them a place to
start.
It’s been a real joy the
last few years meeting the many modelers and see there works of art.
Newcomer our master modeler they truly are works of art. Some of my
favorite models are the first Lakers a modeler builds, very artistic
and creative looking boats. Everyone has to start somewhere, and I
find it ironic that my favorite ones are where it all began. We put
a lot of time into these models, and the first boat always be
special.
So what is in store for the
future of the G.L.M.A. Well an outstanding opportunity has offered
to us. A new group is in the works “Great Lakes Nautical Society”,
which the G.L.M.A. will very much be a part of. We have been given
access to facilities and a pond in Port Huron, literally just off
the St. Clair River. We will keep you posted as things
get rolling.
Finally I would like to
thank everyone for there comments and suggestions. Thanks for
everyone sharing there models in our museum for all to enjoy. Thanks
for the support and making this a real joy to put this site together
for you.
Sincerely
Jeff Churill
