Launched on August 11, 2000 by the Greater Detroit Shipbuilding Division the M/V Scott B. Tomlinson serves as the flagship of the Inland Seas fleet. She is named for the owner and Chairman of Inland Seas Transportation, Scott Brian Tomlinson. Following sea trials on August 18th, 2000 the mammoth ship was christened by Ms. Paula A. Brady with the traditional bottle across the bow at Hart Plaza in Detroit, MI. Following christening she departed for her maiden voyage to load Taconite Pellets at the BN&SF ore dock in Superior, WI for shipment to the National Steel plant on Zug Island.
