Latest Construction News:    Award Winning Model / Maiden Voyage

The Vacationland has become the coolest project I've ever worked on!  I've been in contact with the captain and the Bridge Authority and both have been very supportive.  Looks like we will be taking her to the Mac next summer for the old captain to give her a try in the Straits!  How cool is that.  I'm really looking forward to next year regatta already.  My dad is going to construct the Old Mackinaw City Docks and St. Ignace dock for us to use.  Should look really cool.  Plus since she is HO we will have a full load of 1950's era cars on board.  John Belliveau is also working on one of his drawings of her.  She also will be my first of many fiberglass hulls.  I hope to release some smaller scale fiberglass laker hulls in the Spring.  Probably 1/192 or 1/200.

In the winter of 1952, the Highway Department acquired the 10,000 horsepower Vacationland. Built by the Great Lakes Engineering Works in River Rouge, Michigan, it cost $4,745,000 and, with a 75 foot beam and a 360 foot length, became the queen of the fleet. The Vacationland carried nearly 150 cars and trucks. The five-vessel fleet had a total carrying capacity of about 500 vehicles.
