Here
are some photos I took of the Benson Ford which since
1986 has been placed on the Western end of Put-In-Bay. I
use these photo’s to build the scale model of the Benson
Ford, I built for the current owners Bryan and Gerary
Kasper of Sandusky, Ohio. It was recently featured on
“The Travel Channel” as one of the most unique vacation
homes in the world!
The model is a replica of the
original ship just before it’s scrapping, with the bow
placed in Put-In-Bay as a home. The Kasper’s after
seeing some of my model, asked me if I could build them
a model of the Benson Ford. The model is 60” long and
took over 100 hours to build. Balsa, bass, beech wood
and styrene and some of the materials I used, with some
small parts from Ship Crafters. It’s built off of photos
from Inland Seas Museum Vermillion, Ohio and of course
these photos of the bow and a good tape measure.
Check out the photo's Russ took
during his visit with the Kasper's, and there Benson
Ford they call home at the bottom of the page.
