Vessel Name:

Put In Bay                         mmvpib@aol.com

The real Motor Vessel Put-In-Bay was built in 1959 by The Sturgeon Bay Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. It served the bass islands in Lake Erie until 1994. It was lengthened 30 feet, renamed the Sacre Bleu and is working at Mackinaw Island Michigan now.

The model was built over a period of years. I estimate I have over 600 hours building this model. The hull is wood and has been gel-coated. It has 2 electric engines in it and a twin rudder system.

The model is in 1/25th scale and the deck will easily accommodate 12 scale model cars/trucks. Everything from the deck up is plastic. When I build I like to concentrate on the details. In the pilot house on the ceiling you can see all of the ships documents along with a radar unit and ship to shore radios. The only thing in the pilot house I didn't make was the ship's wheel and the engine gauges. I made all of the ship's decals on my computer using Corel Photo Paint and printed them on my Alps printer.

I had a blueprint cross section of the hull and deck. I went aboard the ship many times while it was still at Put-In-Bay to measure and photograph for all of the other measurements and details.

I will be glad to answer any and all questions at mmvpib@aol.com.
