"The Big Fitz" Deckhouse 3  Aft Detailing

October 2001 This was a good month for ship building on the Fitz! Again mainly doing what I can till the paint arrives. I managed to get most of the aft deck house fittings done, ready for detailing and installation. Also did some work for the spar deck, boy is that turning into a project with those hatch covers. Only 1468 clamps, 546 gussets for the hatch combings on 27 feet worth of combing, and about 250 railing uprights. This however is going pretty well with the aid of some jigs and die's.

Must of the major detailing is done, vents, the 2 fuel tanks, fans, center hatch and stack. Also the old coal bunker hatch is done, which will be my quick access panel for all systems onboard the Fitz. Like the other hatches, this to will be held in place by internal magnets. On the plans this hatch was to long and had to be shorted. I noticed on some photo's how much shorter it was to the plans and corrected it.

Another look at the detailing so far. Also notice I put a rudder together. This was built just like the real one was, kind of like a large aircraft wing with ribs and spars. This will have a quick disconnect to allow me easy access to the propeller, much like the real on did.

Here is some fittings made up for throughout the Fitz. From left to right: Railings and eye rings, the 546 gussets for the hatch combings, the 28 doors, ballast tank vents and other vents, the over 250 spar deck railing uprights, misc: 55 gallon drums, chain link, horns, bell, windshield whimpers, pulleys and spot lights.
