Building the 1/87 Edmund Fitzgerald

"The Big Fitz" Dry Dock 2

The center section is cut and laid out.

I started cutting out the new cargo hold / ballast tank. This time I know it will be done right, so I don't feel so bad about cutting my boat in peaces. I also made sure to sand the finished face of the paneling off. I use paneling because it's cheap, easy to cut, easy to shape and it's very light. In building the many aircraft models I believe the lighter the better. The same hold true with these large models. Why have it weight a ton and be hard to handle, when you can have it light easy to move around. Let the ballast tank do 100% it's job when the boats in the water.

You can see the frame cut out with 2 sides and center bulkheads. The new frame will simple slid into the bow and stern sections when done. More shots in detail on the next update.
