1. The forward bulkhead has the
most widows stretching from one side to the other. So to achieve the
proper spacing and location I made 6 foot window jigs for every window
across the front. Them placed the down working inward from the sides. It
turns out I was a little off my dimensions when I got the center. Not a
big deal though, I simply spread the error out in the middle window. Then
glued them in place again working from the outside in. |
2. Now I glued the top section
on and cut to langht. Note the very ends are a little shorter then the
other window frames. This is to accommodate the 0.030 styrene thickness
for the end caps. |
3. Now you can sand down
and fill with putty if needed. Be careful when sanding. |
4. Now all my sides are
completed. You can lay them out and see how things are going to fit for
you. |
5. Before I glue the
sections together, I wanted to make sure I had everything square while
gluing. To do this I made a frame from the pilot house bottom peace and
the pilot house interior floor peace. I glued these two peaces together
with spacers as shown below. So now I had a square box frame to glue all
the sides to. |
6. I first glued the
box frame to the back pilot house section. making sure it was centered
with the wings. |
7. Then glue the aft port and
starboard wing bulkheads on. Check they match up with the end of the box
frame, sand down if needed. |
8. Now comes the fun
part, the forward bulkhead with the angles, note the red line we have to
match to on the left. What I did here was scribed a line down the entire
inside face of the forward bulkhead. I did this at roughly mid way up and
the last foot near the top. The idea is to bend the bulkhead at this line
to achieve the correct angle. Just make sure you scribe your lines on the
correct sides. |
9. To get the
styrene to bend I needed to hold the upper section down so it did not
break the window frames. I took two old shelves with square edges and
weighted them down, lining up the scribe line just right. Then simply
pushed evenly down to get the correct angle. |
10. The near completed
deckhouse. I now go over things and fill where needed. I will be leaving
the roof of till after painting, at which time I will put the windows in
and attach the roof. |
