Building the 5101 Tanker Barge    By: Jeff Churill

Hull Detail #1

Any questions feel free to email me: lakers@sprynet.com

Not sure what they use this box like structure at the stern, maybe for some pumps or gear. I did decide to make mine a bit shorter. I didn't want my tug to be hiding behind this structure, and I didn't want to add an additional wheel house on the ruff of my tug. It's a compromise that I feel will work well.

This is pretty basic, but never the less may give some of you some ideas, just never know. I started by cutting the notch out then building some walls. The large sheet will be pushed in the full the notch as shown.

I then added the ruff and cut to fit.

Now I can add the notch sheet.

The hull read for detailing. Note I went with green instead of the nice blue Hannan is running. This is going to be part of my own fleet of tugs and barges. What the fleet will be I'm not sure yet, but I did find the colors, White, green and black.

Pretty happy with her.
