Craft Stores and Miscellanies Fittings

Way back, I used to dread being dragged into any craft store. My feels have changed since starting into the hobby of build model freighters. I learned while walking around these stores, how useful some of the items could be. Try visiting your local craft store like Michaels, Joe Ann Fabrics or Hobby Lobby.

So many items can used for so many things: tacks for vents – beads for lights – iron on buttons for lamps – fabric for flooring – snaps for securing – wire for railing – rings for portholes and the list goes on.

Here is a list of items to help in your building. If you have any you have found, drop me an email!! Laker301@comcast.net

Railing and light wiring: Wire sold in several sizes or gauges can be used to simulate the light wiring that runs outside the deckhouses. You could even us it to power you lights, where thin wire would be need say up a mast. Works well for railing around the decks also. Can be found with beading items.

Deck vents: These are rivets that can be used for deck vents. Simply add a tube to the bottom to complete the vent. Can be found with clothing items.

Lamps and Vents: These are rolling eyes that can by used as lamps or deck vents. Add a tube to the end for a vent or glue on a mast, paint it to simulate nav. Lights or even deckkights. Can be found with clothing items.

Lamp Shades: These are iron on beads for jeans. Can be added to a rod or tube for lamp shades and vents. They come in several sizes. Can be found with clothing items

Various items: In the Bead section you can make us of many different style beads for many things. Browse through them to see what you can make us of, here’s a few.  Lights – interior items – wheels – vents – small stacks – paint cans – antenna and radar parts.

Plastic Model Parts: I had some old plastic sailing ship like the Cutty Stark. Instead of getting rid of them I strip the kit of useful items such as life boats, masts and various deck fittings. Now when going to garage sales and such, I nab any ship models I find. So much can be found and so much of it can be used!
