Laker Plans

Step 2    Putting together your Bow and Stern sections.

Once you have to cargo hold center section completed you can now build the bow a stern sections. The best way to do this is by applying the Bread and Butter technical. This method is fairly simple and quick.  If you look on most ship plans you will notice sections running parallel with e hull bottom. The idea is to cut out these sections in both thickness and hull contour ( Top view only ). You start by laying the first section down on the hull bottom, and then glue the remaining sections on top of one another, pretty straightforward actually. You then shape the hull just up to where each section comes together.

  1. Start by cutting all your sections out, note the height and counter of each section and cut to that. Make sure the top section has plenty of  material for the deck camber and any other hull structures.

  2. Once the sections are cut you can stack them on the hull to see how they fit together.

  3. If things look good you can cut the center section out of each section for the opening inside the hull. Just remember to leave at least an inch over lap surface to glue each section together.

  4. Now start by gluing the first section to the hull with 5minute epoxy.

  5. You can now glue the remaining section together with 3M Adhesive spry and the top section with epoxy for added support.

  6. Once everything is glued and everything looks good, you can start shaping the hull with some 60 grit sand paper. Shape the hull where each section meets the other. Leave a little extra so you can go over them with a lighter grit sand paper say 150 for the finishing touch. The smoother to finish the easier it will be to fiberglass.
